Banff Festival - August 14 & 15, 2010 PDF Print E-mail

Hello all,

Now that practices have started it is time to start thinking about festivals. Our second out town race will be the Banff Festival. The festival runs August 14-15 on Lake Minnewanka.
We would like to figure out how many people are interested in attending so that we can determine how many teams we will enter. If you could let me know if you are interested it would be greatly appreciated, as well, what your preference for accommodations is. We have a few options:

1) You can stay at a hotel, up to four people per room or less, depending on your preference (please let me know);

2) You can camp at the local campgrounds

3) You can drive back and forth on the days of the festival

4) You can arrange your own accommodations

I have some rates currently on hold for a Ptarmigan Inn but the rates expire June 18th. You can check out the hotels website at:

http://www.lodgingcompany.com/r12-u2090/b662_banff_ptarmigan_inn.html

I currently have a rate of $159/night for quad occupancy and there is approximately 11-12% tax on top as well. There is the option of having breakfast included, but it would be approximately $14 more each day if you are interested. The room rates for single double and triple occupancy are about $149/night, with a $20 additional person surcharge. For accommodations, let me know if you plan on bringing a non-paddler (friend/spouse/family member) with you. Please provide your response regarding accommodations prior to June 18th.

There will be shuttles that run from the Banff core to Lake Minnewanka for paddlers each day as well. If you are interested in finding more out about the festival, please check out their website at http://www.banfflakelouise.com/events-and-festivals/festivals/dragon-boat-festival.

Two Jack Main campground is located on the Lake Minnewanka Loop Road. The campsite fees are 21.50 per site per night, and the fire permit is $8.80 per site per night. Two Jack Lakeside campground is $27.40 per site per night and $8.80 for a fire permit. Both campgrounds are non-reservable campgrounds, so it’s first come first serve. For more details on the campgrounds visit:

We are also thinking of trying to organize a team-building event while in Banff, if anyone has any ideas please let me know. Currently, we are thinking about organizing a team dinner and a night out “dancing” or if someone is camping we could have a team BBQ at the camp site. If you have any other suggestions, please let me know.

We have asked all team members with an interest in attending a festival this year to pay for their spot in advance, as soon as possible. All cheques should be made payable to Calgary Dragon Boat Club - the fee is $40 per person. Cheques can be brought to practice and given to either Karen or Sue. Steersperson & Drummer is exempted from the fee.

The final team roster will be at the discretion of the coaches – your money will be refunded if you are not selected to attend a particular festival.
I hope to see you all there.

Please feel free to contact me at with any questions

Kevin
